Proposed locations of new station, parking garage, and adjacent office building/learning center (Oct 2014)
A new station is necessary because the current site, on a slight curve of the track, cannot accommodate Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for platforms.
Precise station location and footprint has not yet been determined; expected to be just to the east of the historic station.
Environmental clearance received March 2012.
Development team selected by Coatesville Redevelopment Authority in Summer 2013.
Conceptual design is being reviewed by Amtrak.
Extensive public and local stakeholder involvement is ongoing to identify key issues, facilitate ADA and bicycle/pedestrian access and safety, and enhance intermodal connectivity.
Project will include adequate parking to support growing ridership.
PennDOT has committed approximately $20 million to the Coatesville Station project and is coordinating with the City of Coatesville Redevelopment Authority, which is leading the overall urban redevelopment initiative.
Other partners include Amtrak, the Federal Transit Administration, Chester County, the City of Coatesville, and the Chester County Economic Development Council.
